At First Position we have a huge success in training boys, with pretty much all of them going on to work professionally in the West End and all over the world, studying at prestigious colleges such as Arts Ed, The Royal Ballet School, Central School Of Ballet, London Studios and Laban.

The BOYS ONLY dance class was developed purely to encourage more boys to dance! We find so many boys want to, but some just can’t cope with the thought of being in a class full of girls (that is, until they’re at the age of appreciating the benefits of working alongside the girls).

The emphasis in our Bournemouth boys dance class has always been on fun, confidence building and encouragement, to get aspiring young male dancers into the studio, but beginners learn basic modern and ballet dance technique, turns, elevation, strengthening exercises.

At First Position we feel it is a huge privilege to have a whole class of boys literally bouncing off the walls with energy and enthusiasm – and it’s taken as an honour to be able to teach them.

Other opportunities we provide for the boys include performing in our local shows and events, joining the syllabus classes in ballet and tap if they wish to progress further through exams and learn basic partner work with some of the girls.
